Should I call a broker, hire a coach, or get the business ready first?

Start by clarifying your goal and what the business can demonstrate today. A broker can advise on a sale process, a coach can support leadership or business development, and readiness work can expose operating and documentation gaps. These roles can complement each other; getting ready first is useful when important evidence is missing.

When does speaking to a broker make sense?

Speak to a broker or transaction adviser when you want to understand a potential sale process, buyer fit and representation. An early conversation can be useful even if you are not ready to list. Ask about experience in your trade, scope, incentives and confidentiality. Do not assume an introductory conversation commits you to a sale.

When might a coach be the right fit?

Coaching may suit an owner who wants ongoing help with leadership, habits, planning or accountability. The scope varies considerably, so ask what work is included and how progress is measured. Coaching is not automatically document-based diligence preparation, and a good relationship with a coach does not by itself establish that the company is ready to transfer.

What does readiness work do differently?

Readiness work examines what records and operating evidence can support, identifies gaps, and puts improvements in a practical order. NCKTR starts with documents across financial performance, operations, sales, management and exit or growth readiness. It is not a valuation or brokerage service. Your team builds the systems so the business does not become dependent on us.

Can I use more than one kind of adviser?

Yes, provided responsibilities and information sharing are clear. A broker, accountant, lawyer, coach and readiness adviser can have different roles. Agree who owns each decision, how recommendations are coordinated and what you authorize others to see. Your timeline may require parallel work rather than a fixed sequence. No adviser can guarantee a sale or its outcome.
